Interviews Dos And Donts

Having a interview lined up, be prepared to give your best

Do’s

  • 1. Be prepared.

Before your job interview, gather lots of info about the company and the industry it's in. Make sure to have your own questions ready too. It's important for top candidates to feel like the company is a good match for them personally, not just professionally.

  • 2. Be confident.

When you meet someone, shake hands firmly but not too hard. Nobody enjoys feeling like their hand is being squeezed too tightly.

  • 3. Be engaging.

During the interview, look into the interviewer's eyes regularly. It shows you're confident and engaged. Also, remember their name and use it to stay connected during the conversation.

  • 4. Be careful.

Before you answer questions, take a moment to think. Your interview is your big opportunity to show the employer you're the best fit for the job. So, what you say matters just as much as how you come across.

  • 5. Be outgoing.

Building a personal connection is really important. If you can relate to your interviewer on a personal level, they might see you as someone they'd like to work with.

If you like what you are reading, please share it with your friends!

If you really want the job, don't forget to send a thank-you note or email afterward. It's a polite way to show you're still interested and reminds your potential boss about you.

Dont’s

Many people lose out to other job seekers for one or more of the following:

  • 1. Don't be late.

Get to your interview 15 minutes early. This gives you a buffer in case something delays you. If you arrive early, you can use the extra time to prepare yourself before the interview.

  • 2. Don't be pushy about salary.

Try not to focus too much on salary during the interview. They'll talk about it if they're really interested in hiring you.

  • 3. Don't talk too much.

When you're answering questions, be clear and to the point. But also, let the interviewers jump in if they need to.

  • 4. Don't exaggerate.

Talk about what you're good at and what you've done before. Be honest and focus on the positives, but don't make things up.

  • 5. Don't over or underdress.

Decide in advance if you need to wear a formal suit or if a more relaxed business outfit is okay.
